GEORGE TREVETT
Congratulations to Honiton Wonderers for winning this season's George Trevett competition in a hard fought final beating Axminster Casuals 5-0.
Although the result may look like a thrashing, it was anything but. The Casuals were right in the mix in frames two and three and, with six bonus points on offer, almost snatched victory in frame four. With the final black safely in the pocket the Axminster player watch in despair as the cue ball travelled two and a half times across the table on the superfast cloth and into a pocket.
Thanks to Greg Jones for both preparing the table and refereeing, ably assisted by wife Marge and Paul Martin. Team photos now on the Gallery.

BRUCE MILLER (BONUS POINT LEAGUE)
A technical error led to me wrongly advising the final positions in last week's email.
Unfortunately, Honiton Wonderers frame points from their final match were incorrectly calculated and, once corrected, they actually finished joint top of the Bruce Miller Bonus Point league with Chard Casuals on 93 points.
The rules say that in the event of a tie there is to be a count back of matches won, not including bonus points. Therefore, Honiton Wonderers are the actual champions this season so congratulations to them.
My sincere apologies to all Chard Casuals players and thanks to Matthew Redwood for pointing my error out to me. That obviously shows great integrity on his part.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Due to an increasing number of late finishes, the committee recently discussed ways to ensure that the clubs and their staff are not inconvenienced as a result. In order to help avoid this situation in future, please start matches at 7pm and make use of two tables when available.
Additionally all players should be aware that six frames need to be played in four hours and therefore should play accordingly. Captains, please make your players aware of this directive and manage the situation on the night. It's also worth pointing out that when you're refereeing you're within your rights to warn/remind players of slow play.
Finally a reminder that (as advised Nov. '22) any frames that can't be finished due to time constraints will be abandoned with no points awarded and not replayed. We are now introducing a hard cut for this rule of 11pm.
If you have any feedback to any of the above, please contact me.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 16
The league has always claimed to be a friendly league, this was no more evident this week regarding the match between Honiton Stingrays and Chard Casuals. On the night Stingrays were faced with transport issues to travel to Chard and postponement was imminent. The Chard team, wanting to play the game, went above and beyond by dispatching a driver, who will remain anonymous in order to save him any embarrassment, who drove to Honiton and back, collecting two of the Stingrays players in order to 'save' the match.....top man!.
Three teams pick up four bonus points apiece this week. Colyton Excons, Colyton Youngboys and Chard Casuals. This sees Youngboys and Casuals open up a narrow lead at the top of the Bruce Miller league standings. Ben Pike was amongst the breaks yet again with a 49 and a 56. View table here.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 15
Three quarters of the way through the league matches and it's looking like Honiton Wonderers might just take the league title again, for the eighteenth time in twenty seasons. Maybe with the new blood joining the league this season things might change next season? Win of the week must go to Martin Parker for his win over Ben Pike. The Bruce Miller title chase is somewhat a different scenario. Mathematically all team are in with a shout and all but Wonderers have chances to reap bonus points in the final matches, Who will take the spoils?. View table here.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 14
Little change to report this week other than Honiton Wonders extend their lead to twelve points in the championship league and Colyton Youngboys claw back a point over Chard Casuals in the Bruce Miller 'Bonus' League. Ben Pike's 33 break the only break of note this week. View table here.

Yet more change in the Bruce Miller Cup (bonus league); Chard Casuals leap frogged Colyton Youngboys to establish a three point lead and Wonderers drew level with Colyton Feds in third place...both the latter teams are six points off the second spot...will this gap prove significant, in was has been, a close fought race for most of the season? Honiton Wonderers further extend their lead at the top of the championship league after a clean sweep against club mates Honiton Stingrays. Breaks came from Andy Hardy 30, Steve Canniford 30 and a superb 81 from Ben Pike that ended with a kick on the pink. Jason Werb also posted a break over thirty this week with a contribution of 36.
Chard Casuals were the only team to pick up bonus points this week, this elevated them into joint top spot in the Bruce Miller with Colyton Youngboys......opening a gap of eight points above third place Colyton Feds, will this prove to be a decisive break for these two teams? View table here.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 9
The highlight of the week has to be Ben Pike's well crafted 72 break to win his second frame. This came after an unbelievable missed pink by his opponent in the first frame, gifting the frame to Ben. This top of the table clash saw Honiton Wonderers pull away to a five point lead over Colyton Feds. The Feds were the only team to pick up bonus points this week which takes then into third place above Chard Casuals. Colyton Young Boys maintain in pole position at the top of the bonus league by four points over Colyton Excons. Paul Martin joins Justin Werb at the top of the Webber Trophy break stakes with a nice 47 break. View table here.

3 REDS COMPETITION
Thanks and well done to all that entered the Autumn 3 Reds Competition this week. I hope you found it an enjoyable evening before the Christmas break. Congratulations to Steve Canniford, this year's Autumn 3 Reds Champion! Josh Lowden Runner-up, Justin Werb third place and Greg Jones forth place.
Paul (League & Cup Secretary)
-------------------------------------
The 3 reds tournament is a tournament that brings me dread and joyfulness in equal measures.
It is a great leveller and the tournament always brings forth a few surprise wins/losses. Looking back over many years, of this once annual now bi-annual tournament, it is fair to say that often it is the 'luckiest' player on the night wins through.....and this year was no exception! Most of the top ranked players, if honest, will admit to feeling a little vulnerable due to the high number of fluked pots and snookers that seem to occur more frequently with this short format.
On my way to lifting the trophy I struggled to play well and may well have fallen at the first or second hurdle against Peter Coates and two times champion Bob Williams. However, there were signs that I was starting to feel more confident when I edged out Justin Werb in a very close tactical semi final.
My opponent in the final was Josh Lowden, a relatively new player to the league. After the first nine or ten visits, I had been totally outplayed and played some atrocious shots. By this time Josh had deservedly built up a comfortable lead. I somehow hung on and to my surprise, when victory for Josh seem inevitable, Josh let me in with an opportunity to clear from the blue. This I duly took with a guilty feeling of overcoming a better player on the night.....but that did not last long ;-)
I may have been the last player standing but given the nature of the tournament there were no losers on the night. To be in the company of like minded players, most whom I have known and been friends with for many years, warms the cockles of my heart.
Many thanks to Paul and Greg for organising the event, the venue and the tables.
All being well we will all be back in the new year enjoying each others company. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 7
It's all still happening in the bonus league again this week....Colyton Youngboys leapfrog Colyton Excons from third into the top spot, Colyton Feds drop from third to fifth, whilst Chard Casuals fall from top spot down to fourth. With no team seeming able to pull away at the top, it all bodes well for an interesting competition this season.
In the league Wonderers manage to keep their nose in front at the top but, unlike past seasons, things are looking much tighter. View table here.
Best breaks over 30 this week. Ben Pike 38, Justin Werb 47.....which is upping the Webber Trophy target for B & C ranked players.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 6
Yet more change at the top of the Bonus League
In the bonus league standings Youngboys are the latest team to cash in on a controversial player ranking, picking up eight bonus points against Wonderers. This takes them up three places into third place. Colyton Excons drop down into second place with Chard Casuals now in top spot.......let's see what comes from the player ranking revision due shortly, might yet be more shuffling of teams.
The championship league standings see Wonderers hold on to top spot over Colyton Feds with Stingrays moving up into joint third place with Excons.
Breaks made this week: 31 by Steve Canniford and a very nice 77, that ended with a twitch, from Ben Pike. View table here.

Chard Casuals make up ground in the bonus league
After picking up eight bonus points as a result of playing a back match against Colyton Feds this week, Chard Casuals move up into joint top of the bonus league alongside Stingrays. Whereas, Wonderers find themselves in unknown territory, anchored at the bottom. In the Champions league table Wonderers hang on to top spot, just two points clear of Colyton Excons.
Breaks made this week: 30 by Ben Pike and 35 by Steve Canniford and Darryl Jones. View table here.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 3
Stingrays make the news again this week
As predicted, Stingrays drop to second place as Wonderers move into top spot in the Championship League. However, Stingrays pick up six bonus points against Excons to leapfrog them into the top spot in the Bonus League. There are a couple of new players who's rankings will be reviewed at some stage so do not be overly concerned regarding bonus points at this stage in the season.
Breaks made this week: 31 by Spencer Davey and 39 by Graham Ward. View table here.
Update - Three players: Spencer Davey, Dave Mather and Roger Woolland were incorrectly stated as 'C' players after the last player rating revision. As none of them played any frames during the George Trevett competition, they were unable to be reviewed and therefore remain 'B' players, until further notice. The only result affected by this change is last week's game between Chard Casuals and Honiton Wonderers, meaning a loss of 4 bonus points for Chard.
The league tables and player ratings have been updated. View here

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE - WEEK 2
Selway sets high Webber trophy break and loses
David Selway of Honiton Stingrays posted a sweet 40 break against Honiton Wonderers but still somehow managed to lose to Kevin 'Fish' Pike.....Thus ends Stingrays '15 minutes of fame' at the top of the table, for this season anyway? The only other break made this week was a 30 by Ben Pike to help Wonderers move into top spot. Colyton Excons lead in the Bruce Miller Cup (Bonus League) by three points over Colyton Yougboys.
Chard Casuals postponed their match with Colyton Feds due to the bad weather.....Captains, please reschedule ASAP. View table here.

View table here.

Colyton Feds edge in front of Youngboys and Wonderers at the top of the table. Jones Survives 3 Reds Madness
The second 3 reds tournament of the season did not fail to provide the usual shock defeats, favourable rolls, uncharacteristic misses and an abundance of snookers. Playing just one frame per round this snooker format once again proved to be a great leveller. Favourites taht included the two times consecutive champion, Bob Williams, fell by the wayside in the early rounds. This left the stage for the lower ranked players to come to the fore and take the spoils.
The semi final line up comprised of just one A ranked player and three C players. Steve Canniford was the first to reach the final defeating Gary Fuller. He was soon joined by Daryl Jones who beat Cade Dack. Third and four places went to Fuller and Dack respectively. The final saw Jones build an early lead through pots and snookers, after an uncharacteristic missed opportunity to score by Canniford. Canniford playing catchup manged to get back into the frame but a well struck long pink sealed victory for Jones.
The tournament took place at Colyton Memorial Club and was run by Greg Jones, Paul Martin and Richard Gibbons.

No change in the championship league this week.

Will it be Stingrays who drew with Wonderers and climbed into joint second place with Excons or Sidmouth Scones who are starting to pick up points as they get used to competitive league snooker?

Fuller spurs a team win
All change at the bottom of the championship league table this week with Colyton Young Boys dropping two places after a 5-1 defeat against Honiton Wonderers....the only consolation being another excellent win for Simon Cornwell over Ben Pike.
Honiton Stingrays 4-2 win against fast improving Sidmouth Scones was helped by a couple of breaks from Gary Fuller, the best being a well crafted 45. The only other break recorded this week was a 36 from Justin Werb of Colyton Feds.
No positional changes this week in the Bruce Miller League.

All teams bar bottom placed Sidmouth Scones change places in the Championship league this week. No position changes in the Bruce Miller league to report this week.

A note from the committee
The final frame of Colyton Feds vs Colyton Youngboys couldn't be played because it was well past 11pm and the club had to close. The committee has decided that this frame will not be replayed and therefore the result stands. Going forward, it has also been decided that any frames that either cannot be started or finished, due to time restraints, will be abandoned and not played/replayed.
In order to help avoid this situation happening again, please start matches at 7pm and make use of two tables, when available.
George Trevett Final
The final between Colyton Youngboys & Colyton Feds on 10th January will be held at Colyton Club with Greg Jones to referee and Richard Gibbons the marker. Teams to arrive by 7pm prompt, please.

It would be great to see everyone enter. Any queries just contact Paul.

League Championship Underway
This first league matches see the two Working Mens Club teams top both the championship and Bruce Miller leagues. Wonderers are just one point ahead of Honiton Stingrays in the championship league and Stingrays one point ahead of Wonderers in the Bruce Miller league.
Wonderers star player Ben Pike, who rarely drops a league frame in a season, got off to a bad start against Colyton Youngboys at the hands of Simon Cornwell. Greg Jones posted the best break of the week a 33. For the rest of the results go to Weekly Results - 2022-23

Colyton teams reach the playoff
Another 5-0 for Wonderers against Colyton Excons was not enough to catch Colyton Feds and secure a place in the George Trevett cup play-off. This sees Colyton Youngboys and Colyton Feds meet in the final* after Christmas on 10th January (venue TBC).
The best break of the week came from Ben Pike with 48. For the rest of the results go to Weekly Results - 2022-23

Newbies show promise
Wonderers still not playing at their best still managed a 5-0 against newbies Sidmouth Scones to get back on an even keel and close in on second placed Colyton Excons.....it was a good test for newbies, Scones, who with a few more league games under their belt will no doubt give more established players a 'run for their money'.
Colyton Youngboys edge another point clear at the top after a 3-2 win over Colyton Feds. Honiton Stingrays were the only team this week to pick up valuable bonus points in their match with Excons, this moves them up one place in the table. For the rest of the results go to Weekly Results - 2022-23

After the Lord Mayor's Show
Colyton Youngboys came crashing down to earth after last weeks hammering of Wonderers. A whitewash at the hands of Colyton Excons cut their lead at the top to just four points. Honiton Wonderers on the other hand bounced back to take maximum points in the local derby against club mates Honiton Stingrays which move them up into third place.....Graham Ward posting a 36 breaks and Ben Pike breaks of 48 and 64. Excons remain in second place. For the rest of the results go to Weekly Results - 2022-23

WELCOME to the 2022/23 SEATON SNOOKER LEAGUE SEASON!
We kick off next week (Tuesday 4th October) with the first of five rounds of George Trevett matches.
Following this, we go straight into the League with six rounds being played before we stop for the Winter 3 Reds Competition - which is both an opportunity to meet up just before Christmas and a chance for new or old, unregistered players to come and play.
The new year then starts, as normal, with the George Trevett final before we play the remaining nine League rounds and then finish with the traditional Spring 3 Reds Competition and the Raymond Selway Super Six Plate.
NEW SCORE CARDS
Honiton Wonderers & Honiton WMC - score cards have been left behind the bar, in envelopes, at Honiton WMC.
Colyton ExCons, Colyton Feds & Colyton Youngboys - score cards are in the scoreboard draw.
Sidmouth Scones - Richard Gibbons has yours (although I think you have some temporary ones for now).
SINGLES CUP COMPETITIONS
It's been proposed that we run the Bolt Cup and Alan Gigg Handicap Cup competitions this season. More info to follow in due course on this.
Finally, we welcome a new team this season, the Sidmouth Scones, (playing out of Sidmouth Con Club) which is great news.
Any questions, just shout. If not, good luck!

End of Season Report
After a year's break, we've successfully made it to the end of another season. There were probably less teams and players than there has ever been and, none of the traditional knockout competitions but, I personally enjoyed it, and I hope you all did too. Thanks to everyone for taking part and congratulations again to all the winners and runners-up.
Thanks also to the committee for their work in keeping the league going, to Steve Canniford for maintaining the website and Greg Jones for preparing the tables for the Three Reds and Super Six competitions, the George Trevett Final and Pick-of-the-League home matches.
I hope you have a great summer and see you next season.
All the best,
Paul Martin

Congratulations to Bob Williams (right) who was recently crowned Seaton League 3 Reds Champion.

Wonderers do the double
All league matches have now been completed and the results are in. Honiton Wonderers can now be officially crowned Seaton Championship League Champions by a winning margin of twenty five points. The runners-up place goes to Colyton Excons and the Wooden Spoon to Honiton WMC by a single point over Sidmouth Cons.
The Covid Affect
With the final league match and a re-arrange match to play, Wonderers were slight favourites to secure the rare double of wining both the Bruce Miller Cup (Bonus League) and the Championship League title. However, Colyton Excons and Sidmouth cons were both in a position to spoil the party and steal the candy.
First up was Excons who had to pull-off something special to climb to the top.....and they very nearly succeeded. A twist of fate in the form of a bout of Covid ruled out one of Wonderers regular star players. This meant brining their controversially handicapped captain off the bench. Excons took full advantage of the situation, wining three frames to draw 3-3 on frame points and pick up a further seven bonus points to amass an overall win of 13-3. This put them on 60 points at the top of the bonus league with Wonderers v Sidmouth Cons to play the re-arranged match. Wonderers would need to win all six frames against Sidmouth Cons to go top.....and still with one star player down.
On the other hand if Sidmouth Cons could take two frames off of Wonderers, they would win the Bonus League.
As it turned out the Wonderers super-sub captain stepped up to the plate to lead his team to a 6-0 victory and top the Bonus League by just a single point over Excons, who had to settle for the runners-up double.
With the Championship League a one horse race it's a great advert for the bonus points system that helps keep the suspense right up to the finl matches.
3 Reds
Tuesday 8th March, at Colyton Club, starting 7pm.
28th February 2022 11:30
Who is going to take the Brucey Bonus?
With the Championship league all but won by Honiton Wonderers, the runner-up spot is between Colyton Excons and Colyton Feds. Excons are five points clear but Feds have a game in hand, so all to play for between the clubmates. Sidmouth Cons and Honiton WMC are in contention for the wooden spoon position, Sidmouth Cons being three points ahead. In the Bruce Miller league Sidmouth Cons lead by two points over Wonderers. This could be a close contest with Wonderers having a game in hand.....against Sidmouth Cons!
Breaks: Graham Ward 32 and Ben Pike 31
Final call for the 3 Reds
Another reminder that the 3 Reds Competition is Tuesday 8th March, at Colyton Club, starting 7pm.

So, if you know any that would be interested, please let Paul know ASAP.

Will it be a rare double for Wonderers?
With the league season almost completed Honiton Wonderers are Champions elect of the Championship league. They are also in with an outside chance of doing the double by also wining the Bruce Miller league. They currently lie in third place but have games in hand and have to play the two teams above them.....Colyton Excons and Sidmouth Cons.

Hurricane comes to workies
Colyton Excons swap places with Colyton Feds for second spot in the championship table behind Honiton Wonderers. In the Bruce Miller league Wonderers claim edge into top spot by a single point over Sidmouth Cons, who have a game in hand.
Best break of the week came from Ben Pike, a lovely 70 that ended with an attempt at a Hurricane Higgins exhibition shot on the final black that didn't quite come off but had everyone ducking for cover!!!
8th February 2022 11:05
Honours even...with a twist
With just one match being played this week due to a postponement the league table positions remain unchanged. The Colyton derby ended with honours even at three frame all. However, you could say Excons had the edge by virtue of two bonus points to post an overall result of 5-3.
31st January 2022 19:10
Colyton Feds on the up
Honiton Wonderers further extend their lead at the top of the Championship League table with a 6-0 win against Colyton Excons. A 5-1 win for Colyton Feds over Honiton WMC move them into second place above Colyton Excons and in the Bruce Miller League they trade places with Honiton WMC at the bottom.
Ben Pike posted the best break of the week with a 48.
24th January 2022 12:00
Ben's 65
Playing on a new cloth, with a lively cue ball, did not put off Ben Pike as he carefully steered his way to a well controlled 65 break in Honiton Wonderers 5-1 (5-3 with bonus points) win over Colyton Feds. Colyton Excons are now fourteen points adrift but do have a game in hand.
Bonus Boost Required
Colyton Feds pick up a couple of bonus points but it's not enough to close the gap on Sidmouth Cons who also picked up two and are now flying high at the top of the Bruce Miller League.
18th January 2022 08:40
Two Teams Edge Away
With all teams having played six matches at the halfway mark we can see that Honiton Wonderers have a comfortable lead at the top of the Championship League with Colyton Excons nine points adrift in second place. These two teams look as if they will be the main contenders in the run-in to the season end.
Bonus Boost Required
In the Bruce Miller League Sidmouth Cons edge away from Colyton Excons by four points with Honiton Wonderers a further three points behind. Honiton WMC and Colyton Feds need a 'Bonus Boost' to make up ground on the top three teams and stay in contention.
No breaks of note to report this week
12th January 2022 12:30
Wonderers by a Whisker
Colyton memorial Social Club hosted the final of the George Trevett final between Colyton ExCons and Honiton Wonderers. The 4-1 score-line to Wonderers does not reflect the closeness of the match. Excons took the opening pairs frame after some solid potting from Martin Parker but not before a valiant attempt by Graham Ward to save the frame with some skilfully crafted snookers. Steve Canniford then edged out Darryl Jones after a relatively close frame to draw level at one all. The next frame saw Martin Parker matched with Kevin (Fish) Pike. With the players ranked 'C' and 'A' respectively it was crucial that Fish won the frame, as defeat would have effectively ended the match due to the bonus points system. However, from 30 points behind 'Fish' dragged himself back into the frame and finally won a tense contest on the black after chances were missed by both players. Graham Ward then beat Paul Martin followed by victory for Wonderers, sealed by Steve Canniford, helped with a little run of the balls at the right time.
Thanks to referees, Richard Gibbons and Stuart Orren.

League Championship - Round 4, 5 & 6
Going into the Christmas break Honiton Wonderers still have a comfortable lead at the top of the Championship League table. They also head-up the Bruce Miller league table. However, this may well be short lived as all other teams have a game in hand.
Breaks: Ben Pike 31,32 34& 37. Paul Martin 32 and Steve Canniford 40.
Player Ratings and Handicaps have been adjusted.
Everyone have a safe and enjoyable festive break. We're back on the baize on the 4th January for the final of the George Trevett and the 11th January for the next league matches.

League Championship - Round 2
Honiton WMC pick up four bonus points against Wonderers to level the total match points tally at five a piece. Wonderers are now joint top with Colyton Excons in the Championship League table, whilst Excons extend their lead at the top of the Bruce Miller League....just three points ahead of Sidmouth Cons who edge ahead of Wonderers.
Breaks came from Graham Ward 38 and Ben Pike 31.
4th October 2021 11:00
League Championship - Round 1
The first league match of the season is now underway and it is Colyton Excons that were quickest out of the blocks. A 5-1 victory in the Colyton derby was enough to top the League Championship table. In addition they picked up six bonus points to also lead the Bruce Miller League. Sidmouth Cons did even better regarding bonus points, amassing eight despite a defeat at the hands of Honiton Wonderers.
Breaks came from Ben Pike 46 and Paul Martin 32.

George Trevett Cup - Round 5
Colyton Excons and Honiton Wonderers are tied at the top of the table. However, Wonderers have a back match in hand against Honiton WMC. This is due to be played on Wednesday 27th October and if Honiton WMC, currently in fourth place, can win by seven clear points they will steal the top spot!
Remember it is the top two teams that go into a final showdown for the cup.
19th October 2021 11:10
George Trevett Cup - Round 4
Colyton Excons extend their lead at the top of the table to five points above Honiton Wonderers, who have a game in hand that they will need to win 5-0 in order to catch up.
Once formidable Seaton League player, Justin Werb, was brought in as a Colyton Feds substitute for injured Richard Gibbons. Justin, handicapped by virtue of using a cue out of the rack, showed signs of the form he produced back in the day. However, on this occasion he could not help stem the flow of a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Wonderers from Honiton.
Honiton WMC finally got their campaign off the ground playing two matches in a week to edge Colyton Feds into bottom place in the table.
5th October 2021 11:00
George Trevett Cup - Round 3
Only one match played for the second week in a row as Colyton Excons and Honiton WMC had to postpone. This sees Sidmouth Cons move up into second spot in the table and Honiton WMC anchored at the bottom having not yet hit a ball due to a bye and consecutive postponements, hopefully they will get their campaign of the ground this week.
5th October 2021 10:45
George Trevett Cup - Round 2

This sees Colyton Excons go clear at the top.
